6 Lessons learned from remodeling

Remodeling houses can be a challenging and rewarding experience. Here are some common lessons we’ve learned from remodeling houses:

  1. Proper planning is key. A well-planned remodeling project is more likely to be successful. It's important to plan out the project from start to finish, including setting a realistic budget and timeline, and selecting the right professionals for the job. It also helps to have a clear vision of what is included in the scope of work to ensure everyone understands the end goal.

2. Expect the unexpected. No matter how well you plan, unexpected issues and delays can (and most likely will) arise during a remodeling project. It's important to be flexible and prepared to make adjustments as needed. It’s the name of the game, but trust your professionals to help guide you through anything that comes up that needs your attention.

3. Communication is vital. Good communication is essential for a successful remodeling project. This includes communicating with contractors, architects, designers, and other professionals. Get clear about the form of communication you will have with your professionals, and when you can expect to hear from them.

4. Quality over quantity, always. Choosing quality materials and workmanship is important for the longevity and value of your home. It may be tempting to choose cheaper options, but in the long run, investing in quality can save you time and money.

5. Be prepared for disruptions. Remodeling can be disruptive to your daily routine. It's important to plan for disruptions and make necessary adjustments to your schedule and lifestyle. Ie; where will you live while the construction is going on? How will you make your meals? Especially if its a full home remodel, these are questions to work through before any construction takes place.

6. Don't underestimate the importance of finishing touches. The finishing touches, such as furniture, hardware, and lighting, can make a big difference in the overall look and feel of your home. Don't overlook these details and be willing to invest in them.

By learning from these common lessons, you can increase your chances of success and satisfaction with your remodeling project by knowing who needs to be involved and what the general process looks like.
