The latest design trends

In the world of Interior Design, trends are constantly influenced and changing on an average pattern of 4-5 years. There is so much more to interior design than just flooring, wall paint, and tile. Interior designers must see things from a holistic view in order to execute and implement proper flow, function, and aesthetic aspects of any particular design. This could be as simple as one room, an entire house, office building, and even commercial space. 2014-2018 yielded a lot of grays, rustic pieces, with a twist of cool and warm tones. 2019-2022 was all about whites, creams, and warm pallets. 2023 feels as if there is now a shift in design trends, while also incorporating some of the same color pallets from before. Rich, deep, and moody elements are what we are loving to use in designs as of late, with a proper usage of neutrals to help set the tone of the overall design.

Generally speaking, neutral pallets are the key layer for a proper incorporation of all final design elements. Think of a neutral pallet as the base layer, typically seen on the wall paint color. Color, texture, and tone are 3 methods that contrast can be incorporated into any space to help liven the neutral pallet. There are so many different ways to incorporate all 3 or even just one of the methods. It is important to determine what the architectural style of the building is to make sure that the design compliments and highlights certain architectural aspects. Usage of different hard surface patterns, wall treatments, paint sheen contrasts, all the way down to what furniture and decor is being implemented should all be considered when working with an interior designer.

Micro luxuries and re-purposing are 2 additional trends we are seeing in 2023. Micro-luxuries are pieces that are considered a luxury but are also design focal points in a space. In years prior, this would be accomplished with painted accent walls, tile layout details, wall paper, etc. These micro-luxuries could be anything from appliances, floating tubs, slab detail walls, fine wood products, etc. Essentially materials or items that would be considered luxurious, not just incorporated into the design, but the main statement of the room or space. Re-purposing is also a trend that is growing in popularity. This is especially held true in the remodel space where sometimes there are materials or aspects of the old, that also work well in the new. This helps keep the integrity of the overall architecture, while also helping the client feel like they are still connected to the space as they were before.

We at Fairspring Design are here to both incorporate trends but also start new ones with twists on what seems commonplace. If you have not updated your residential or commercial space in recent years, it is the perfect time to do so as you will be starting your project on the cusp of a transitory time in the design world. We hope this serves as a help to you, we are here if you need any help.
