Our Kitchen Design

When we started this remodel, we knew this kitchen would be one of the bigger transformations. Below is a picture of what it looked like prior to our transformation. It just needed some tweaking, mainly for aesthetics but also for flow.

Our design started with our wish list of what we wanted to see and how we knew we would use the space. An island was important to us, keeping the kitchen open for conversations when hosting. Natural light without loosing cabinet space, a fun twist on open shelving, and incorporating some kind of wow factor. When starting with the cabinet design and layout, I knew from the start I wanted a creamy color instead of white, something just slightly different from the norm. In looking through the color samples, we came across this blue/green, ocean like color that totally caught our eyes and we knew we needed to use it somewhere. This island felt like the perfect spot for this color.

Along with the colors, we knew we wanted brass hardware to add a classy touch. Moving on to the open shelving, I also wanted to do something different (are you seeing the trend yet!?) we designed a custom piece to help elevate this side of the kitchen that drew your eye up. Something that was both practical and usable for displaying décor. We landed on the shelving piece below. It is made of black powder-coated steel, with inset-wood shelves provided by Bellmont Cabinet company that we had custom-cut to fit in our steel frame. We love that the black adds another depth to the kitchen with a different finish color, we also tied the black in with our sink faucet.

Lastly, the hood. We both wanted yet again, something different!! Something neither of us had seen before. This idea of boxing out the hood insert and wrapping with tile came to mind and at first felt a little risky, but then we knew it was just what this kitchen needed. It turned out to be just the thing that added another texture and color to the space that still played well with all the other selections.

A few other fun details we did in our kitchen was a trash bin pull out, seriously, the BEST! Deep drawers for pots, pans, tupperware, etc. Transom window to keep the light in, and moving our micro to our pantry to free up cabinet space! These little details have made all the difference in our day to day use of this kitchen.
