Top Tips For Greener Grass
Spring is coming and if you’re anyone like me you love a green lawn. There’s always something to be said about the person that keeps up a good yard and part of that is having a healthy lawn. I’m no expert but I’ve been complimented quite a bit on keeping my lawn nice and healthy. It can be time consuming but I have found that a good balance and schedule can make it pretty manageable.
Pre-emergent weed killer and iron
This is important to get down on your lawn before soil temperatures meet 65 degrees. Weeds start to germinate at this temperature. For cool season grasses, which are predominantly in the PNW, it’s important to take advantage of the growing season in spring and fall. Pre emergent weed killers are important to put down before spring so that any weed-seeds laying dormant in the grass are halted. Find one that targets clover and crabgrass. And also, milorganite is a good iron/nitrogen fertilizer that is organic and will keep your grass healthy.
Mowing
Mow high and frequently. Cutting too much off your grass will stunt it and cause it to go into shock. Mow on the highest setting, and mow 2x a week. This will keep your grass longer and greener, and also it will help block the sun from weeds that are trying to sprout up.
Fertilizer
Alternate monthly between fertilizers that are nitrogen based and iron based. I usually fertilize once a month and I alternate between the 2 this really helps.
Hope these tips help you and remember to stay on top of it !
