What makes a great dining room

Creating the perfect dining room depends on various factors, including the size of the room, the amount of natural light, and the intended use of the space. However, here are some key pieces to keep in mind when creating the perfect dining room:

  1. The dining table is the centerpiece of any dining room. It should be the right size for the room, and comfortable enough to seat all your guests. Choose a style that is classic, versatile, and bonus if it can extend.

  2. Your dining chairs should be comfortable, sturdy, and stylish. Consider the height of the chair, the material of the seat and back, and whether or not it has armrests. You can choose to match the chairs with the table or opt for mixing it up with a different material or color on the chairs. Sometimes it works out to where the chairs on each end can be the only ones different, oftentimes they are in a fabric material with the rest of the chairs being wood.

  3. The lighting is an essential element in any dining room. If you can, I would suggest installing a statement light fixture, such as a chandelier or pendant light, above the dining table. Add additional lighting, such as wall sconces or table lamps, to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

  4. A rug can help to define the dining area within an open-plan space and add warmth and texture to the room. Choose a rug that complements the style of the room and is large enough to fit under the dining table and chairs. We like to use thin jute area rugs or rugs with very simple patterns for the dining room.

  5. Decorative accents, such as artwork, mirrors, and table centerpieces, can add personality and charm to the dining room. Consider incorporating elements that can stay on the table while it is actually being used or, left on the table for months on end. Things like faux floral or greenery, large pots and vases, or pairing a handful of candlesticks with candles down the center.

  6. Storage is often overlooked in dining room design, but it's essential for keeping the room organized and clutter-free. Consider incorporating a sideboard, hutch, or shelving unit to store dishes, linens, and other dining or hosting essentials.

By considering these key pieces and incorporating them into your dining room design, you can create a space that is not only functional but also beautiful and inviting.
