How to style your great room

Styling a great room can be a challenge, but with the right approach, you can create a space that is functional, comfortable, and visually appealing. Here are some our our go-to tips for styling any great room.

Define different zones. Great rooms are typically large and open spaces, so it's important to define different zones within the room. You can use furniture arrangements and rugs to create zones for different activities, such as conversation, entertainment, and dining.

Create a focal point. Every great room needs a focal point, whether it's a fireplace, a piece of artwork, or a large window. Choose a focal point that is visually appealing and draws the eye towards it. It will be important to design the space centered around the focal point.

Use a neutral color scheme. A neutral color scheme can create a cohesive and calming atmosphere in a great room. Use shades of white, beige, and gray as a base, and add pops of color through accessories and artwork. I love to bring color in through rugs, pillows, decor objects, and lighting.

Incorporate different textures. Texture can add depth and interest to a great room. Use a variety of textures, such as wood, metal, and fabric, to create a layered and inviting space. I also love pairing textures with different patterns. You could use plaid, stripes, floral, etc as well to add even more depth to the space.

Add plenty of seating. A great room is meant to be a space for gathering and entertaining, so make sure to provide plenty of seating options. Consider a mix of sofas, chairs, and ottomans to accommodate different group sizes and activities.

Use lighting strategically. Lighting can create ambiance and highlight different zones within a great room. Use a combination of overhead lighting, table lamps, and floor lamps to create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

Add personal touches A few personal touches can go a long way, such as family photos and sentimental objects, can make a great room feel cozy and inviting. Use these items to add character and personality to the space.
