Our favorite black paint colors

With moodier colors being all the rage this year as a new trend, we thought it would be helpful to share our favorite go-to black paint colors. We are all for moody rooms. They are great for powder baths, den or study rooms, and even in bedrooms. Depending on the undertone you are looking for, these options are great to get you started.

  1. Tricorn Black (SW 6258) Tricorn Black is a classic true black color that works well in any space. It has no discernible undertones and looks stunning in high-gloss finishes. We have this color on part of our exterior.

  2. Black Magic (SW 6991) Black Magic is a deep, rich black with a warm undertone. It works well in smaller spaces and pairs well with warm wood tones. We’ve done kitchens in this color and it turned out beautifully. A nice and clean black paint for sure.

  3. Caviar (SW 6990) Caviar is a sophisticated black with a subtle brown undertone. It looks particularly striking in matte and eggshell finishes and pairs well with metallic accents. Thus would especially be stunning in a den or office.

  4. Iron Ore (SW 7069) Iron Ore is a deep, cool black with a subtle blue undertone. It pairs well with white and beige as well as other cool-toned colors and works well in both modern and traditional spaces. A tried and true go to. We’ve used this on exteriors and cabinets and it never disappoints.

  5. Black Fox (SW 7020) Black Fox is a warm black with a brown undertone. It works well in rooms with a lot of natural light and pairs well with warm wood tones and natural textures. Also used on exteriors, love the rich yet warm undertone it carries throughout.

Remember, the way a paint color looks in your home can vary based on factors such as lighting, other colors in the space, and the finish of the paint. It's always a good idea to get a second opinion too and also test a few paint samples in the room you plan to paint it!
